We decided to check in with Imanzi for a quick chat. This UK junglist stays busy deejaying at various events, hosting a broadcast on Subtle FM and making music in the studio.
Hello there Hyden! Thanks for taking a few minutes for a chat. Can you give our readers a little insight on the dj & production background of Imanzi?
Hey guys! Thank you for giving me this opportunity! Basically, started DJing around summer 2011, which soon after got me a residency at Lincolnshire's Vexd Bass Culture. After persuing my passion for DJing I began to start producing. First focusing on the 140pm scene, I was lucky to release music on labels such as Indigo Movement, Simply Deep & Prolific. Now I like to experiment in a range of tempos, particularly enjoying working around Drum & Bass/Jungle at the moment. Who knows what i'll make in the future...
You have been doing an online radio show with Subtle FM for some time now. How is that going for you so far?
It's going great, it's been over year since the launch and it's grown so much. My shows are bi-weekly Wednesdays from 10pm onwards UK Time, in which I showcase a whole spectrum of genres including Drum & Bass, Jungle, Dubstep, Reggae, Garage & more. Big shout out to Lee (Kryo), Hannah (Buer) & the rest of Subtle FM for making what it is today! They're smashing it so far and look forward to seeing what the radio has in store for years to come!
Now available on the Skalator Music label is your track titled, "Ragga". Nice work with the atmosphere and rhythm that you created. Can we expect to hear some more creations like this from you?
Much appreciated. Good to hear people are vibing 'Ragga'. :) I tried to give it an old school 90s Jungle feel, which came out like this. Didn't expect to see it get released so I'm pretty chuffed about that. I most definitely will be making more music around this tempo, ranging from Deep, Techy Drum & Bass to Jungle/Breaks. Keep your eyes peeled for new music and releases to announce soon. ;)
What else might you be working on that you can tell us about? Any remixes, collabs, or upcoming events?
Well I recently did my own Drum & Bass version of Cutty Ranks - Limb By Limb, which you can grab for free on Just-Is Records.
As I currently reside in the city of Norwich (UK) you can catch me playing at local nights such as Warrior Jungle, Jam Down & more. Hopefully will be playing a few UK festivals this summer, nothing I can announce just yet.
Can you give us 3 tunes that you are really enjoying recently?
Off the top of my head...
- 1. Mohican Sun - Dead Sea
- 2. Sam Binga ft. Warrior Queen - Wasted Days (Sully Remix)
- 3. Benga & Coki - Night (Egoless Version)
Any closing thoughts or shout outs?
Shouts out to everyone who has supported my music so far! Out to my family and friends, Skalator Music, Subtle FM, Just-Is Records, Warrior Jungle, and of course you guys at DNB Universe! Not to mention all the radio/podcast support for 'Ragga' from Foreign Concept on Critical Music, DNB Dojo, DJ Buster @ Basspaths, DNBRadio, Mais Baixo, etc. Sorry if I've missed anyone out!
