Jungle Bells in Atlanta is a yearly experience bringing you a full Drum & Bass lineup and pulling together passionate people from all over. I made the trip down to Atlanta and was eager to hear music, meet new people, and explore a bit of the city. Long after returning home from Jungle Bells in Atlanta, I'm still feeling the great vibes from everything that the event and trip had to offer. For any Drum & Bass/Jungle music listener that has lived in Atlanta their whole life or even just for a short period of time, they are truly spoiled to be able to have such a great event like this every year.
As expected, Jungle Bells always strives to bring the best experience for the Drum & Bass/Jungle community. This being the 27th year of hosting the event, they decided to make it two nights of music with an after party each night. The main venue for the event was the Masquerade, located in the Underground Atlanta entertainment district of Five Points. This venue has four indoor stages with an outdoor courtyard in the middle that connects the stages. The first night saw two stages open while the second night had all four stages going with music. Both nights of music featured a wide variety of talent from local, regional, national, and global acts. The Jungle Bells crew are seasoned and do a great job that makes everything unfold in a fluid manner for the artists and everyone attending the event. Doing two back to back nights of music with follow up after parties within walking distance isn't an easy task but they pulled it off and everyone I saw and talked too was having a great time.
The event also featured great vendors such as Uncommon Being, Evol Chicago, and Rave Wars. Each stage at Masquerade had good sound and each act was doing a proper job providing great music for the listeners. There were so many great songs and it was hard to pick a favorite set of the weekend. I will say that the DJ SS and Roni Size first time tag set was a nice feature as well as the multiple impromptu 3 way tag sets of LSB, Monroe, and Sustance. Of course Mozey, Kings Of The Rollers, and DJ Wednesday brought high energy to the dancefloor but you can't forget about great performances by other acts like D:RC, DJ Circle K with Reality, Enei, Bad Syntax, 360 Degrees, Fred V, and the talented Armanni Reign crushing it over Danny Byrd and Dillinja's sets, as well as the special LSB & DRS set ending with the well known hit "The View".
Everyone I met in the city as well as at the event were pleasant and welcoming and I even met someone from my own, small home town that graduated the same year I did, what are the chances? It's also easy to navigate throughout the city as the public transit system known as, MARTA incorporates buses, rail cars, and trains. There is also plenty to check out in the city just walking around or even catching an Uber for a short distance. I visited the Ponce market which has a long history of it's own. It not only has living spaces, but multiple floors filled with all kinds of small businesses and great selections of food. I also had to visit some record shops and chose Criminal Records and Wax N Facts. Both of these shops have been open for more than three decades and offer great service.
